Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser on Aug. 11 renewed her call for U.S. military assistance to deal with the surge of illegal immigrants the nation’s capital has encountered after governors of border states began busing the immigrants to the city.

"New York City will remain a sanctuary city under an Adams administration," the NY mayor once promised.

President Joe Biden’s administration has denied a request for National Guard assistance from Washington’s mayor.

"I hope [New York City Mayor Eric Adams] follows through on his promise of welcoming all migrants with open arms so that our overrun and overwhelmed border towns can find relief," said Texas Gov. Abbott.

Bowser called it a "humanitarian crisis."
