Those on the political left who previously ridiculed American civilians with firearms are suddenly in favor of them as Ukrainians prepare to defend themselves against Russia.

- The politically left-leaning Twitter account @OccupyDemocrats tweeted in 2016, “You are a very special breed of stupid” is you use an AR-15.
- But on Thursday, the same account radically shifted their position, telling their followers to “retweet” them and stand in support of Ukrainians who are now being handed weapons for self-defense.
- “BREAKING: Ukraine’s Interior Minister announces that 10,000 automatic rifles have been handed out to the civilians of Kyiv as they prepare to fight tooth and nail to defend their homes against Putin’s invasion,” the group tweeted.

- CNN, which has been vocal about its opinion on the Second Amendment, has also suddenly changed its stance on weapons.
- “JUST NOW: “The Ukrainians will fight like h***… if every Ukrainian takes a gun, Russians don’t have a prayer. I mean the military can fight, but Ukrainians are really ready today,” CNN co-anchor John Berman tweeted.
- “A special thank you to @terrelljstarr, who has been committing heroic journalism in Kyiv,” Berman said. “It was deeply moving to watch him talk to his friend Andre, who was driving to get a gun to defend his country.”
- On the campaign trail in 2020, President Joe Biden said the only way to stop gun violence is to ban assault weapons and challenge the companies that sell defense weapons.
