The U.S. Mint is honoring the lives lost in the September 11, 2001, terror attack through a half-dollar coin.
The coin features the Statue of Liberty and the date of the attack with the phrase, “Never Forget.” The reverse side of the coin features Liberty passing her torch with the phrases, “E Pluribus Unum,” “Half Dollar,” and “Knowledge is the Only Guardian of True Liberty.”
“As we approach the 25th anniversary of September 11, we honor the memory of those we lost and the courage of those who risked their lives to save their fellow Americans,” said Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. “A quarter century later, our promise to the victims and their families remains the same: we will never forget.”
U.S. Mint Director Paul Hollis similarly said, “Offering these special coins to a greater number of Americans affords more of us a tangible reminder of how the Nation came together on that fateful day, and provides us opportunity to educate younger generations, many of whom were not even born, about the sacrifices made.”
The coin is available for pre-sale September 10 through September 25.
The U.S. Mint recently released a $1 coins featuring an image of President Trump in honor of the nation’s 250th anniversary. The “head” of the coin features Trump and reads, “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “1776 ~ 2026.” The reverse side of the coin features the presidential seal, an “eagle holding an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, with a shield on its breast and a banner inscribed ‘E PLURIBUS UNUM’ in its beak,” the Mint said. The shield also reads “250” to honor the nation’s anniversary. “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “ONE DOLLAR” are also featured on the coin.
