The U.S. Mint released 250,000 $1 coins featuring an image of President Trump in honor of the nation’s 250th anniversary.
“Created to celebrate this historic national milestone, these special circulating dollar coins combine everyday American coinage with a once-in-a-generation anniversary design destined to become a standout addition to modern collections,” the Mint said.
The “head” of the coin features Trump and reads, “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “1776 ~ 2026.” The reverse side of the coin features the presidential seal, an “eagle holding an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, with a shield on its breast and a banner inscribed ‘E PLURIBUS UNUM’ in its beak,” the Mint said. The shield also reads “250” to honor the nation’s anniversary. “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “ONE DOLLAR” are also featured on the coin.
The Commission of Fine Arts (CFA) approved the final design for the commemorative coin in March. “As we approach our 250th birthday, we are thrilled to prepare coins that represent the enduring spirit of our country and democracy, and there is no profile more emblematic for the front of such coins than that of our serving President, Donald J. Trump,” U.S. Treasurer Brandon Beach said in a statement at the time.
Other coins celebrating the nation’s 250th anniversary include quarters featuring the Mayflower Compact, the Revolutionary War, the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, and the Gettysburg Address. The dime features a bald eagle and is called “Emerging Liberty,” and the nickel features Thomas Jefferson and his Monticello home with the word “liberty” written in his handwriting. Other coins will feature a “unique Liberty Bell privy mark inscribed with the numeral ‘250,’” the Mint explained upon releasing the coins.
