Trump Executive Order Restores Protection for Women’s Spaces

Independent Women’s Forum President Carrie Lukas asserts that efforts to protect women’s spaces have regained momentum under President Donald Trump’s administration. On his first day in office, Trump signed an executive order titled “Defending Women From Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government.”

Lukas emphasizes that Trump’s order reclaims language and definitions that were challenged by gender ideology, ensuring clarity in women’s spaces such as sports, detention centers, and private facilities. The order defines female and male according to reproductive biology, moving away from ideological influences.

Lukas acknowledges that past efforts to approach gender ideology with kindness and empathy have shifted, as the consequences of promoting gender ideology became evident. She highlights the impact on women in prison, locker rooms, and other private spaces where biological differences matter for safety and fairness.

Prominent voices in the movement include former Kentucky swimmer Riley Gaines, Penn swimmer Paula Scanlan, and former North Carolina volleyball player Payton McNabb. Gaines, now a leading advocate for women’s sports, praised Trump’s executive order, calling him “a true champion for women in the White House.”

Independent Women’s Forum has chosen reproductive potential rather than chromosomes to define sex, aiming to account for chromosomal abnormalities while maintaining clarity in policy. This approach is reinforced in recent advertising campaigns, including the “Real Girls Rock” commercial for XX-XY Athletics, featuring female athletes training while confronting criticism and bullying.

Jennifer Sey, CEO of XX-XY Athletics, criticizes major corporations like Nike for prioritizing “wokeness over women.” The new campaign is backed by influential figures such as J.K. Rowling, Clay Travis, and Megyn Kelly, aiming to restore fairness in women’s sports.

Lukas also highlights the issue of men being placed in women’s prisons as particularly concerning, drawing attention to the overlooked impact on incarcerated women. Gaines reinforces the need for continued vigilance, cautioning against complacency despite Trump’s executive order. She urges continued activism to ensure long-term protection for women’s rights and fair competition in sports.
