In a controversial press release, the Biden administration addressed the mysterious "anomalous health incidents" (AHIs) that have affected hundreds of U.S. personnel and their families worldwide since 2016. Known as "Havana Syndrome" due to its initial reports in Cuba, the symptoms include unexplained head pressure, ear pain, and dizziness. The release comes just days before President Trump is set to return to office.
According to a report commissioned by the State Department and released in December 2020, a National Academy of Sciences committee found that “directed” microwave radiation was most likely the cause of mysterious symptoms allegedly suffered by American diplomats in Cuba and China dating back to late 2016.
A panel of experts led by senior intelligence officers has met in recent weeks on “Havana syndrome” as the investigation into unexplained health incidents among American personnel enters what one U.S. official described as a new and intensive phase.
