The U.K.'s National Health Service will no longer routinely prescribe puberty blockers to children over concerns about a lack of evidence on the impact from the drugs.
California lawmakers are considering a bill, AB 1314, which would require schools to notify parents within three days if their child requests to be referred to by a name typically associated with the opposite gender or uses a bathroom or locker room designated for the opposite sex.
"This bill is aptly named the Vulnerable Child Protection Act because it seeks to protect children with gender dysphoria from medical and surgical interventions that can cause permanent damage to their bodies before they are mature enough to make such serious health decisions," writes Idaho's Gov. Little.
A Christian woman in Oregon was denied adoption due to her beliefs about gender, and concerns have been raised about the lifelong consequences of gender dysphoria treatments, as Oregon lawmakers propose a law to cut parents out of the process entirely.
"As Attorney General, I will protect children and enforce the laws as written, which includes upholding state law on experimental gender transition interventions," said AG Bailey.
Norway's medical watchdog has recommended that treatments for transgender minors be considered experimental due to a lack of research on the safety and long-term effects of gender confirmation treatments, which have seen a surge in demand in recent years, particularly among girls who identify as boys.
