"America continues to face an unprecedented border crisis that threatens our nation’s security and the safety of Tennesseans," Gov. Lee said.

Along with that 68% of Americans, 73% of swing-voting independents, told the pollsters they want stricter border policies.

"The impacts of Biden’s Border Crisis are felt by communities across the nation, and the federal government’s abdication of duty undermines the sovereignty of our country and the rule of law," said DeSantis during the announcement.

"This bill secures the border from President Biden's record, crossings, record carelessness, and record chaos," said Speaker McCarthy. "We identified the problem. Rather than ignoring it, we listened to the American people. And then we took action."

The move was revealed by three anonymous administration officials.

House Homeland Security Chairman Mark Green (R-TN) and Republican committee members introduced the Border Reinforcement Acts of 2023, a bill Republicans spent two years reviewing.
