The Pentagon issued new rules this week outlining what constitutes prohibited extremist behavior in military ranks and what will be the procedure for handling such behavior, the Associated Press reported.

The definition of a hate crime, according to the FBI, is a regular crime with an added element of bias. “A ‘criminal’ offense against a person or property motivated in whole or in part by an offender’s bias against a race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, ethnicity, gender, or gender identity,” the FBI.gov website states.
