Nearly a third of Democrat voters would welcome the assassination of President Donald Trump at a rally, according to a disturbing new poll that exposes the depth of political hatred gripping the American left.
The survey, conducted by Liberal Currents magazine in partnership with the Center for Strategic Politics, found that 23 percent of Democrat respondents would feel “very positive” about watching the president gunned down while speaking to supporters. Another 8 percent said they’d feel “somewhat positive” about the violent scenario. The poll surveyed 683 Democrat voters on Sept. 3 and Sept. 8-10.
Even more respondents expressed openness to Trump dying in his sleep while in office. More than half said they would welcome that outcome “at least at some level,” according to the publication.
The party that brands itself as democracy’s defender appears remarkably comfortable with ending elections through bullets and military force. A staggering 43 percent of Democrats surveyed said they would find it “very positive” if “a group of U.S. military leaders” removed their commander-in-chief from power and “assumed control of the United States.”
“Restoring our democracy and upholding the Constitution. The three branches of government should be equal in power and the executive branch has usurped that power,” one poll respondent wrote, apparently unaware of the irony in supporting a coup to defend constitutional governance.
The survey also found 75 percent of respondents would feel “very positive” waking up to news that Trump had been “impeached and convicted by both houses of Congress.” And 74 percent would support invoking the 25th Amendment to remove Trump by declaring him “unfit” to serve.
A survey released in April 2025 by the Network of Contagion Research Institute in partnership with Rutgers University’s Social Perception Lab found that 55 percent of individuals identifying as left of center believed assassinating Trump was “somewhat justifiable.”
“These attitudes are not fringe,” the NCRI report stated. “They reflect an emergent assassination culture, grounded in far-left authoritarianism and increasingly normalized in digital discourse.”
