Nine Republican Legislators Condemn Michigan’s Satanic Display

Nine Michigan representatives sent a letter to the Michigan Capitol Commission, condemning the presence of a “yule goat” display erected by The Satanic Temple.

Forty-five lawmakers did not sign the letter.

“Today myself and my colleagues signed a joint letter to the Michigan Capitol Commission requesting the removal of the Satanic Statue from the grounds of the capitol. Evil has no place on the grounds of the capitol,” shared Michigan Representative Neil Friske, who led the message.

“We, as members of the Michigan House of Representatives, respectfully request the removal of the statue depicting a satanic goat from the grounds of the Capitol,” the letter reads. “We believe that its presence not only contradicts the foundational principles of our nation but also promotes a display of evil.”

The representatives added in the letter that they believe “removing this statue will resonate with the principles of good and morality that our country cherishes.”

“We earnestly hope that the Capitol Commission will uphold the highest standards of decorum and respect by preventing the exhibition of any symbols representing hatred or evil on the premises of Michigan’s government seat,” the letter adds. “As we approach the Christmas season, it is an opportune moment to contemplate and honor the foundational principles and values imparted by our nation’s founding fathers.”

Michigan State Representative Josh Schriver (R) called the statue “disturbing.”

When the statue was first erected, Democrat staffer Samantha Skorka tweeted, “In the name of Satan, I claim the sexy satanic baphomet goat altar at OUR Michigan Capitol. Amen.”
