Elon Musk Reportedly Planning to Fund New University in Texas

Tesla CEO Elon Musk reportedly plans to fund two new schools and a university in Austin, Texas.

The information was revealed in tax filings from Musk’s charity, The Foundation.

According to the documents, The Foundation “is in the process of creating an independent primary and secondary school in Austin, Texas focused on teaching in STEM subjects and other topics.”

“The School’s primary function will be the presentation of formal instruction and curriculum by a regular faculty to a regularly enrolled student body in or near Austin, Texas as well as using distance education technologies,” the filing continues, noting the School “expects initial enrollment to start at approximately 50 students, with the goal of scaling its enrollment over time.”

Musk’s endeavor seeks to “combine formal instruction by experienced faculty in subjects such as mathematics, science, engineering, and physics, alongside hands-on learning experience including simulations, case studies, fabrication/design projects, and labs.”

Admission policies will be based on merit, the documents state.

“The School will, after a thorough assessment, select applicants who demonstrate academic curiosity and discipline, independence, and innovation,” the tax filings read.

Musk and Synthesis co-founder Joshua Dahn also opened a school in 2014, Ad Astra, now called Astra Nova School.

“At Astra Nova, we make progress by challenging ourselves to be maniacally creative; we design each year anew,” the school’s website reads. “And we focus our energy on what really matters to the development of our students: their disposition towards learning and complexity, their ability to work effectively in teams, and their capacity to make ethical decisions. Every class and experience starts with these principles.”

The Tesla CEO previously criticized the U.S. education system for being “racist against whites and Asians.”

The remarks were made in response to the controversy surrounding the “Dilbert” cartoon creator, Scott Adams, who suggested that white Americans should “get away from black people” after a Rasmussen survey showed that nearly half of black Americans could not agree with the phrase “it’s okay to be white.”
