Disney’s ‘Snow White’ Trailer Faces Massive Political Backlash Online

The second trailer for Disney’s live-action Snow White remake, set to hit theaters in March 2025, has sparked significant backlash, accumulating thousands of negative comments just hours after its release. Criticism of the $300 million production stems from controversies surrounding lead actress Rachel Zegler, changes to the original story, and the broader direction of Disney’s live-action remakes.

Zegler, who plays Snow White, has been a focal point of criticism due to her past remarks about Trump voters, including a profanity-laden post-election comment wishing for them to “never know peace.” Despite apologizing, her statements continue to alienate many potential viewers. Social media users mocked the irony of Zegler promoting a film about kindness while being accused of divisive rhetoric.

Fans of the original 1937 classic also criticized Disney for altering key aspects of the beloved story. Instead of the traditional seven dwarfs, the remake features “magical beings,” a change reportedly made after actor Peter Dinklage expressed concerns about perpetuating stereotypes. Many commenters felt the new approach deviates too far from the source material, with some sarcastically suggesting that the Evil Queen, played by Gal Gadot, should emerge victorious.

The trailer has drawn more downvotes than likes on YouTube, a trend that echoes the reception of the first trailer released in July. That trailer garnered over 1.4 million downvotes compared to just 99,000 upvotes. Critics blasted Disney for altering the story while claiming to celebrate its legacy, with one viral comment reading, “Disney: Relive the classic story! Also Disney: Changes the classic story.”

Zegler’s polarizing statements aren’t the only controversy. Her August social media post declaring “Free Palestine” reignited criticism due to its timing during the film’s promotional campaign. Co-star Gal Gadot, an Israeli actress and veteran, has not commented publicly on Zegler’s remarks, adding another layer of tension.

Disney’s live-action adaptations have faced increasing scrutiny in recent years, with audiences divided over their creative choices and perceived political messaging. The challenges facing Snow White suggest the studio may need to rethink its approach to reviving classic tales.
