Benghazi Justice Reckoning: Pirro Says Terrorists Can’t Hide Forever

The tragedy in Benghazi returned to the national spotlight after the arrest of Zubayr Al-Bakoush, an alleged leader in the 2012 terror attack on the U.S. consulate in Libya that killed four Americans. U.S. attorney for Washington, D.C., Jeanine Pirro said the arrest sends a clear message that accountability does not expire. She emphasized that the United States remains committed to pursuing those responsible, no matter how long it takes.

Speaking on Fox & Friends Weekend, Pirro reflected on the failure to protect Americans during the Benghazi attack. “The American cavalry never came, to our disappointment, in 2012,” Pirro said. She added, “We’re coming for you now. We’ve got him. We’ve got a lot more coming.” Pirro criticized the lack of consequences under then-President Barack Obama and rejected early claims that the attack stemmed from a protest.

Pirro said officials misrepresented what occurred as Americans watched the assault unfold. “The president said we did everything we could. They didn’t do everything they could. Americans watched in horror as four Americans are being killed, not by peaceful protests that went awry,” she said. She argued the administration knew the attack was coordinated and questioned why military options were not used.

“Benghazi was the most dangerous place on earth for Americans, and they put them there without protection,” Pirro said. “And they lied to us on the Sunday morning talk shows. They lied to us in Congress… It was only through President Trump that we’re now going to get some kind of justice.”

Attorney General Pam Bondi said Al-Bakoush faces charges including murder, terrorism, and arson tied to the 2012 attack.
