Robert De Niro’s child, Airyn De Niro, formerly known as Aaron, has publicly identified as a transgender woman. In an interview with Them magazine, Airyn, 29, discussed his journey and experiences growing up as one of De Niro’s seven children.
Airyn shared that she began hormone therapy in November 2024 and expressed a desire to be seen for who he truly is. He credited the influence of Black women in his life, including his mother, actress Toukie Smith, as pivotal in her decision to embrace her identity.
Robert De Niro responded to his daughter’s announcement by expressing his unwavering support, stating, “I loved and supported Aaron as my son, and now I love and support Airyn as my daughter.”
Airyn emphasized his desire to forge her own path, separate from her father’s fame, and is currently pursuing a career in modeling, voice acting, and mental health counseling. She aims to be a role model for Black, queer, and plus-size trans women.
This revelation has brought much debate regarding the disproportionate amount of children of celebrities who have come out as transgender.
