YouTube CEO to Increase Content from ‘Authoritative Sources’ in 2024 Election

YouTube CEO Neal Mohan vowed to promote content from “authoritative sources” leading up to the 2024 election.

In an official blog post titled, “Letter from the YouTube CEO: 4 Big bets for 2024,” Mohan discussed the subjects of AI, monetization, creators and their channels, and the creator economy.”

Within the “creator economy” section, Mohan explained that it is YouTube’s priority to connect people with “high quality information.”

“This is more important than ever as elections take place across the globe – more than 50 countries will hold elections this year,” he wrote. “We’re ensuring that when people look for election news on YouTube, authoritative sources are prominent in their searches and recommendations.”

He went on to explain that YouTube has previously enforced policies against “hate speech, incitement to violence, election interference, and more.”

X CEO Linda Yaccarino also wrote in a recent blog post that the social media platform will target “hate speech.”

“To drive humanity forward, society must empower people to express their thoughts, make up their own minds, but also draw the line at hate,” she wrote, emphasizing, “This is tough to do, but absolutely crucial.”

“For all the good, there’s also a point when information independence crosses a line too, and that’s hate speech,” Yaccarino added.
