Fox News host Will Cain argued on Monday that President Joe Biden has no “standing” to publicly claim that President-elect Donald Trump lacks the “decency” that former President Jimmy Carter embodied. Cain’s comments came after Biden honored Carter, who passed away at the age of 100 on Sunday, for his character, faith, and humility.
In his statement, Biden praised Carter’s decency and suggested that all Americans would be better off if they emulated the late president’s example. Responding to a reporter’s question about what Trump could learn from Carter, Biden said, “Everybody deserves a shot at decency,” and emphasized that Carter would never ignore someone in need or make derogatory remarks based on appearance.
Cain, however, was quick to point out that while he respected Carter’s decency, he believed Biden was using Carter’s legacy as a political tool to criticize Trump. On Fox & Friends, Cain stated, “I accept that Jimmy Carter was an example of decency. But I don’t want to hear that from Joe Biden when he’s using it as a political tool to suggest that Donald Trump is indecent.”
Cain further explained that Biden lacked the credibility to judge someone else’s decency, given his own political actions. “I don’t think Biden has the standing to testify to somebody’s decency, quite honestly,” Cain said, adding that he believed Carter’s decency was beyond question, but Biden’s use of Carter’s legacy was politically motivated.
Trump, for his part, paid tribute to Carter in a post on Truth Social, acknowledging his contributions and the challenges he faced during his presidency. Trump expressed condolences to the Carter family, stating that the former president had worked tirelessly to improve the lives of all Americans.
Jimmy Carter, who served as the 39th president from 1977 to 1981, passed away following a lengthy battle with health complications. He had entered hospice care in February 2023 after suffering a series of health setbacks.
