Vice President JD Vance committed Tuesday to investigating allegations that Planned Parenthood affiliates may be using deceptive billing codes to conceal cross-sex hormone prescriptions given to young people, including minors.
The promise came after Daily Wire reporter Mary Margaret Olohan pressed Vance during a press conference about whether the administration’s fraud task force would examine the abortion giant’s practices. Vance said he hadn’t yet reviewed the specific report but indicated the Trump administration would take action.
“We’ll look into that reporting,” Vance told Olohan. “I always want to be driven in the fraud task force by what’s actually happening.”
The allegations stem from an investigation by Do No Harm, a medical watchdog organization that has asked the Department of Health and Human Services to probe Planned Parenthood affiliates for potentially improper billing practices. The group analyzed claims data spanning from 2015 through 2025 and identified roughly 800 Planned Parenthood patients ages 22 and younger who received between 1,100 and 1,200 hormone prescriptions related to gender dysphoria.
The problem, according to Do No Harm, is that the affiliates allegedly failed to use appropriate diagnosis codes when billing for these prescriptions. If true, such practices could constitute medical fraud against federal health care programs and private insurers.
Vance acknowledged the administration already has broader awareness of similar schemes in the medical industry.
“We do know from other cases, not necessarily Planned Parenthood, but we know from other cases that there was the fraudulent provision of cross-sex hormones,” Vance said. “That people were using the wrong medical billing codes in order to give these therapies to children.”
Do No Harm has acknowledged limitations in its own investigation and called for federal authorities to conduct a more thorough examination.
The Planned Parenthood allegations surface as the Justice Department continues a nationwide investigation into potential violations of federal law involving medical treatments for minors. DOJ has confirmed that investigation includes potential fraudulent billing practices, specifically the use of false diagnosis codes to obtain payment from government health programs and insurance companies.
Vance made clear the administration intends to follow the evidence wherever it leads.
“I haven’t seen the report that you’re referencing, Mary Margaret. I don’t know the answer to that question,” Vance said when initially asked about the Planned Parenthood allegations. “It sounds like we have some awareness that it’s going on, but we haven’t done the deep dive just yet.”
