United Nations Encourages People to Report ‘Hate Speech’

The United Nations (U.N.) tweeted that “Hate speech can take many different forms.”

The tweet continued, “But no matter what it looks like, hate speech has real consequences,” adding a link where people can take various forms of action against “hate speech.”

The tweet has received criticism for defending the subjective idea of “hate speech” instead of advocating for peace between nations.

Some have argued that promoting methods of reporting hate speech ultimately leads to internet censorship.

An earlier tweet from June 7 shared a similar message, urging individuals to “make your social feeds a no-hate zone,” “check facts before sharing,” and “tackle hate by sharing messages of tolerance and equality.”
