Un-Vaxxed Google Employees Face Termination

Google mandates both shots by Jan. 18; non-compliant employees face termination.

  • In a staff memo obtained by CNBC, Google gave employees until Dec. 3 to declare their vaccination status to the company.

WHAT GOOGLE SAID:
  • Employees who are still non-compliant by the Jan. 18 deadline are to be placed on “paid administrative leave” for thirty days, then on “unpaid personal leave” for up to six months, followed by termination.
  • Google ties its mandate to its return-to-office plans and the Biden administration’s OSHA order, saying in the memo “[w]e expect that almost all roles at Google in the US will fall within the scope of the executive order” and “[a]nyone entering a Google building must be fully vaccinated or have an approved accommodation that allows them to work or come onsite.”
  • Google did not respond to CNBC’s request for comment.
BACKGROUND:
  • Google employees will soon return to the office for work three days per week.
  • In September, President Joe Biden announced that the Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration would impose an order requiring all private companies with more than 100 employees to issue vaccine mandates.
  • After numerous legal challenges and setbacks, including multiple injunctions entered by federal courts, the OSHA order is now in limbo, pending litigation. Nonetheless, the Biden administration continues to urge companies to follow the order, as Google now does.
