Two Dead After Reported Member of ISIS Opens Fire in Brussels

At least two individuals are dead after an Islamic man opened fire in Brussels.

The gunman exclaimed, “Allahu Akbar,” according to reports.

A spokesman for the federal prosecutor’s office, Eric Van Duyse, said, “This person claims to be inspired by Islamic State,” adding, “The Swedish nationality of the victims was put forward as the probable motive.”

The identity of the gunman has not been verified.

Belgian Prime Minister Alexander de Croo offered his condolences to Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson.

“I have just offered my sincere condolences to [Kristersson] following tonight’s harrowing attack on Swedish citizens in Brussels,” de Croo tweeted. “As close partners the fight against terrorism is a joint one,” his statement added.

Although authorities have not confirmed if the shooting was related to the Israel-Hamas conflict, the event follows Hamas calling for a global Muslim uprising.
