Trump Team Looks to Elon Musk to Eliminate Federal Waste

According to The Washington Post, Elon Musk could be among the corporate leaders brought in under a potential second Trump administration to help identify and eliminate federal waste.

Musk has expressed interest in participating in a “government efficiency commission” to reduce unnecessary regulations and spending.

“It should be a high priority. We have a lot of spending and waste to cut if we’re going to extend the Trump tax cuts or do these other things he wants to do,” economist Steve Moore said of establishing a commission. “You’ll have to find redundancies and inefficiencies and obsolescence, but the good news is we haven’t done this in a couple decades.”

Other names being considered include former FedEx CEO Fred Smith and former Home Depot CEO Robert Nardelli. This initiative is seen as crucial for extending Trump’s tax cuts and achieving his broader economic goals.

Earlier last month, Musk explained his reasons for endorsing Donald Trump in the upcoming 2024 presidential election during an interview with podcast host Lex Fridman.

“He just got shot. He’s got blood streaming down his face, and he’s fist-pumping, saying, ‘Fight.’ That’s impressive,” Musk said of Trump’s recent assassination attempt.

“Most people would be ducking,” he said. “You want someone who is strong and courageous to represent the country.”

The billionaire claimed he doesn’t think Trump is without his own flaws, but he is a better candidate than the Democratic options.

“It was a choice of Biden who has trouble climbing a flight of stairs, and the other one is fist-pumping after getting shot. No comparison,” Musk said.
