Trump Says Maduro’s Days as Venezuela’s President Are ‘Numbered’

In a recent interview on 60 Minutes, President Donald Trump stated that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro’s time in power is “numbered,” while clarifying that he does not expect a war between the U.S. and Venezuela. The comment reflects continued U.S. pressure on Maduro’s regime, especially concerning border security and regional stability.

Trump connected Venezuela to illegal immigration and drug trafficking, claiming the country had “emptied their prisons” and “mental institutions” into the United States. He also confirmed that U.S. forces have conducted operations against vessels near Venezuela suspected of drug activity.

When asked whether he believed Maduro’s presidency was nearing its end, Trump replied, “I would say yeah. I think so, yeah.” However, when pressed on whether military conflict was likely, Trump responded, “I doubt it. I don’t think so,” while criticizing how the regime has treated the U.S.

The administration’s position on Venezuela continues to draw attention amid broader concerns over Latin American instability and its effects on the southern U.S. border. With increasing scrutiny on immigration enforcement and regional security, Venezuela remains a focal point in foreign policy discussions heading into the next election cycle.
