President Donald Trump issued a direct warning to Iran on Thursday, telling the regime its time to negotiate is nearly gone as a self-imposed deadline approaches and tens of thousands of U.S. troops mass in the region.
“They better get serious soon, before it is too late, because once that happens, there is NO TURNING BACK, and it won’t be pretty!” Trump wrote Thursday on Truth Social.
Trump ordered a five-day pause in U.S. strikes against Iranian energy infrastructure earlier this week to allow for talks. That pause expires Friday, March 27.
In the same post, Trump said Iranian negotiators have been privately pressing for a deal while publicly dismissing U.S. proposals. “The Iranian negotiators are very different and ‘strange,'” Trump wrote. “They are ‘begging’ us to make a deal… and yet they publicly state that they are only ‘looking at our proposal.’ WRONG!!!”
The warning comes as a significant American military buildup converges on the region. The 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, roughly 2,200 Marines aboard the USS Tripoli, is steaming into position. Thousands of elite paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne Division’s Immediate Response Force are also arriving Friday. In total, more than 50,000 U.S. personnel and two aircraft carrier strike groups are now deployed as part of the buildup.
Trump’s stated objectives have been consistent throughout the standoff: preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons and dismantling its regional military operations.
Administration officials say the strategy pairs maximum military pressure with an open door for diplomacy. Trump has authorized the “Department of War” — a label the administration has used for the Defense Department — to hold strikes pending the outcome of ongoing talks.
Trump has warned that a failure to reach a deal would result in an “annihilation” of the Iranian regime and has previously pledged to “raze the missile industry to the ground” if negotiations collapse.
