Trump Commands 43-Point Lead Over DeSantis Among GOP Primary Voters: Morning Consult Survey

In the highly anticipated 2024 Republican primary race, former President Donald Trump continues to command a significant lead over his competitors, according to the latest survey conducted by Morning Consult.

The poll reveals that Trump has garnered an impressive 61% of potential Republican primary voters, solidifying his position as the frontrunner.

This level of support marks his largest lead since the survey began tracking the race in December.

According to Morning Consult, “Over 3 in 5 potential Republican primary voters (61%) back Trump’s bid for the GOP nomination, giving him his largest level of support yet over his current and potential rivals since Morning Consult began tracking the race in December.”

While Florida Governor Ron DeSantis lags behind Trump in terms of popularity within the party’s prospective electorate.

The Florida governor currently enjoys the support of 18% of potential GOP primary voters, a considerable gap of 43 points behind Trump.

Interestingly, DeSantis has experienced a decline in both his standing against Trump and his favorability among potential GOP primary voters.

The poll indicates that two-thirds of the party’s prospective electorate view DeSantis favorably, down by 6 points from the previous week.

According to Morning Consult, “DeSantis’ slide against Trump has coincided with a dip in the share of potential GOP primary voters who view him positively. Two-thirds view him favorably, down 6 points from last week.”

In contrast, one candidate who has seen a notable surge in favorability is entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.

As more potential primary voters have become aware of Ramaswamy, his net favorability rating has increased by an impressive 29 points over the past month.

With over 44% of potential GOP primary voters viewing him favorably, Ramaswamy’s standing is now on par with that of former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, who enjoys a 47% favorability rating.

The Morning Consult survey presents a clear picture of the current Republican primary landscape, with Donald Trump retaining a firm grip on the support of GOP primary voters.

While DeSantis trails far behind, facing declining favorability, Ramaswamy emerges as a rising contender, gaining significant ground in the eyes of potential primary voters.
