Trump Breaks Records: 50% of Americans Say Nation Is on Right Track

For the first time in nearly two decades of polling, Rasmussen Reports has found that 50% of likely U.S. voters believe the country is heading in the right direction. This milestone reflects a significant shift in public sentiment under President Donald Trump‘s leadership.

The survey, conducted from May 18 to May 22, 2025, included 1,810 likely voters and has a margin of error of ±2 percentage points. The results indicate that 50% of respondents feel positive about the nation’s direction, while 45% believe it’s on the wrong track.

President Trump’s approval rating has also seen an uptick, with 53% of likely voters expressing approval of his job performance. This includes 36% who strongly approve and 37% who strongly disapprove, resulting in a Presidential Approval Index rating of -1.

The increase in public optimism coincides with recent policy decisions, such as the rollback of certain tariffs and successful trade negotiations with the United Kingdom and China. These actions have contributed to a boost in consumer confidence, which surged in May due to optimism over trade deals.

Mark Mitchell of Rasmussen Reports commented on the unprecedented polling result, stating, “Never thought I would see it. I don’t think the Republican Party understands the gravity of the gift which [President Donald] Trump has given them. Unprecedented presidency.”
