Trump Announces Trade Deal with U.K.

President Donald Trump announced that the United States has reached a trade deal with the United Kingdom.

The trade deal includes “billions of dollars of increased market access for American exports, especially in agriculture, dramatically increasing access for American beef, ethanol, and virtually all of the products produced by our great farmers,” Trump said.

The United Kingdom will “reduce or eliminate numerous non-tariff barriers” against American products, he added.

Prime Minister Kier Starmer said the deal will “boost trade between and across our countries. It’s going to not only protect jobs but create jobs.”

U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said, “What we’ve shown is that it is time to change the way we do trade. People said we couldn’t do a global tariff. We did a global tariff. They said no one would want to deal with us. People want a deal.” He added, “We’ve agreed to have fair and reciprocal trade, and we’ve done it in record time.”

“So here’s what we’ve got,” Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick explained. “We’ve opened up new market access, ethanol, beef, machinery, all the agricultural products. They’ve agreed to open their markets, and that will add $5 billion of opportunity to American exporters.”

Ahead of the announcement, Trump said on Truth Social that the agreement is “full and comprehensive one that will cement the relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom for many years to come.”

“Because of our long time history and allegiance together, it is a great honor to have the United Kingdom as our FIRST announcement,” he wrote. “Many other deals, which are in serious stages of negotiation, to follow!”
