President Donald Trump said that he spoke to the mother of wounded Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe, who believes that her son will survive.
“I spoke to his mother, ‘Sir, he’s going to be okay, I’m telling you.’ No doctor thought that. Nobody thought that. He was hit at bad places. And she was like, so positive, it was incredible,” Trump said, adding, “It would be amazing if he lives. It would be amazing. A miracle, actually.”
Attorney General Pam Bondi said Wolfe is “doing well.”
“His parents, Melody and Jason, wanted me to tell you, and I was with them yesterday in the hospital,” she stated. “He’s a miracle. I was there when the surgeons came in and they wanted you to know this. He’s a miracle. And if everyone in this country can continue to pray for that family, he’s got a long road ahead of them, but he is a miracle.”
West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey (R) also provided an update, saying that Wolfe “remains in critical condition but is stable. Doctors and the family are optimistic about his current progress and note that he has responded to some basic requests such as a thumbs up sign and wiggling his toes.”
“The family continues to ask for prayers during this difficult time,” he wrote on social media. “The prayers are clearly helping.”
The other Guardsman shot in the same attack, 20‑year‑old Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, died from her injuries. The suspected shooter, Afghan national Rahmanullah Lakanwal, is in custody.
