A third infant has reportedly been surrendered to the Safe Haven Baby Box at Fire Station #1 in Madison, Alabama this year.
Fire medics evaluated the baby at the station and transferred the infant to Madison Hospital for further evaluation, reports revealed.
The Safe Haven Baby Box at the Madison Fire Station is the first one to be installed in the state.
Officials said “in order to preserve the child and mother’s anonymity,” the sex of the child or when they were surrendered.
In June 2023, a baby who was surrendered to a baby box in Knoxville, Tennessee, had been placed with “his forever family,” Safe Haven Baby Box founder Monica Kelsey told a local news outlet at the time.
“That baby is healthy and it’s going to live a beautiful life with an adoptive family,” Kelsey said.
The baby boy was surrendered to the Baby Box approximately 30 minutes after his birth at Knoxville Fire Station 17.
“For this parent to utilize this box, 99 days after this box went into service, I think speaks volumes about the box being in the right place at the right time and Knoxville definitely needing this last resort option,” Kelsey continued.
