Tennessee Governor Requests Increase in School Security Budget

Governor Bill Lee (R-TN) has requested an increase in his school security budget following the shooting at The Covenant School in Nashville.

Lee requested to have $140 million dedicated to placing an armed School Resource Officer (SRO) in every public school across Tennessee, explaining, “There is no excuse to not have a guard in every school.”

The governor also requested a $27 million grant fund for security upgrades as well as $8 million for school mental-health liaisons who would notify officials if an individual exhibited red flags in their behavior.

Reporting from The Epoch Times:

“This past week will be remembered as one of the most heartbreaking weeks in our state’s history,” Lee said when announcing his amended budget request on April 3.

“The history books will also reflect how Tennessee leaders responded.”
