A teenage illegal immigrant who shot a woman at a Times Square clothing store Thursday night before opening fire on New York City police officers was arrested Friday afternoon following a manhunt.
“The shooting incident last night in Times Square was way beyond reckless,” NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban said. “In the middle of the busiest, mostly highly-trafficked part of the city, a criminal with a firearm decides to pull the trigger.”
According to Caban, Jesus Alejandro Rivas-Figureoa, 15, was taken into custody around 3:30 p.m. by the U.S. Marshals Service in Yonkers, New York.
Authorities said the teen was living in a temporary shelter after coming into the country from Venezuela in September and was staying at the Stratford Arms Hotel.
Rivas-Figureoa entered a JD Sports store with two other teenagers in Times Square and grabbed some clothes before attempting to leave.
When a security guard confronted the three teens, the suspect shot into a crowd, missing his target and hitting a 38-year-old woman visiting from Brazil.
The shooting came nearly two weeks after a group of illegal aliens attacked two NYPD officers also in Times Square.
