"We need the people who understand the language and the case law in the country," Jourová says in the clip. "Because what qualifies as hate speech, illegal hate speech—which you will have soon also in the U.S.—we have a strong reason why we have this in the criminal law."
The statement was in response to a thread by journalist Michael Shellenberger regarding the World Economic Forum's (WEF) secretive finances, in which he mentioned the use of ESG criteria by the organization.
Several Republican lawmakers will attend WEF's annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland to discuss global initiatives, joined by Democratic officials and Biden administration officials.
