The "omicron" variant appears to be quite mild for many, according to a new study out of South Africa.

The White House said Friday that the Biden administration will lift travel restrictions on eight southern African countries imposed last month in a bid to curb of the spread of the highly contagious Omicron variant of the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus.

The Omicron variant has caused alarm particularly in the U.S., where it is now said to account for most of the new recorded cases of COVID. But new research suggests that the highly transmissible variant is less likely to result in hospitalizations among those who get it as compared to previous variants.

According to a South African government panel, the Omicron variant is so mild there’s no need for quarantines and contact tracing.

"We propose that quarantining be discontinued with immediate effect for contacts of cases of Covid-19. This applies equally to vaccinated and non-vaccinated contacts."
