The Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will send toxicologists to a struggling Ohio town in the wake of a major train derailment and the release of hazardous materials from its railcars.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency is deploying federal assistance to Ohio now more than two weeks after the toxic Norfolk Southern train derailment that threatened the village of East Palestine.
After Ohio Republican Governor Mike DeWine requested federal assistance for disaster relief, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) said, "Ohio is not eligible for assistance at this time," according to a statement from the governor's office.
