Gavin Newsom Claims to Support Israel While Raising Funds for Group Behind Anti-Israel Protest

Although California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) has publicly supported Israel following Hamas’ attack, he has privately raised funds for organizations involved with anti-Israel protests, a report from the Washington Free Beacon found.

A high school protest was planned by the San Francisco group Arab Resources and Organizing Center (AROC), an entity connected to an organization supported by Newsom, the Tides Center.

More than 1,700 students walked out to support Palestine during the event, chanting phrases such as, “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.”

Newsom has raised more than $1 million for Tides Center through the Emerson Collective, a left-wing funding group.

The Tides Center is also backed by George Soros.

As the outlet reported, Newsom “secured more than $1.4 million from the Tides Foundation for his preferred nonprofits and causes.”

Reporting from Free Beacon:

The governor’s fundraising for Tides was done through the state’s "behested payments" system—a mechanism that allows California office-holders to raise money for select philanthropies, causes, or government business from their donors. Companies and others use these payments to curry favor or influence with state leaders. Newsom has also used the system to fundraise for his wife’s two nonprofits.
