Nick Clegg, Meta's Vice President of Global Affairs, admitted in a blog post that the tech company has a "high" error rate in content moderation, leading to "harmless" posts being censored.
Social media giant Meta said it would reinstate former President Donald Trump's Facebook and Instagram accounts after suspending him over two years ago.
"It is just as unconstitutional – and thus illegal – for the US Government to violate the First Amendment by proxy – through so-called private companies – as if the government directly attacked our free speech."
Emails obtained by the House Judiciary Committee found that the White House and Biden officials pressured Facebook to censor Americans, violating First Amendment Rights.
Social media companies "should err on the side of allowing a wide range of political speech, even when it offends," said ACLU executive director Anthony Romero.
Democratic lawmakers sent a letter to Meta's president of global affairs, Nick Clegg, cautioning Facebook from alterations on "certain misinformation policies.”
Former President Donald Trump could be allowed back on Facebook for the 2024 election after his suspension expires in 2023, a top company executive said.
