North Carolina's Republican-dominated General Assembly has successfully overruled a veto from Governor Roy Cooper, a Democrat, to enact legislation that severely restricts abortions beyond 12 weeks of pregnancy.
"The impacts of Biden’s Border Crisis are felt by communities across the nation, and the federal government’s abdication of duty undermines the sovereignty of our country and the rule of law," said DeSantis during the announcement.
The director of a crisis pregnancy center in North Carolina that was vandalized in 2022 said city leaders have been silent about the crime, but local police have gone out of their way to protect the organization.
“The fact that the Governor continues to overspend creating structural deficits in future years is fiscally irresponsible," Republican Assemblymember Vince Fong said.
