Supreme Court Rejects Congressional Map Challenge, Gives Republicans Victory

The United States Supreme Court rejected an appeal from a group of Kansas voters who claimed a newly-drawn congressional map discriminated against minorities.

The map split Wyandotte County, the location of Kansas City.

Kansas claimed the congressional map reflected population growth.

While a state trial originally struck down the congressional map, the Kansas Supreme Court ruled in favor of the district boundaries.

The state of Kansas argued the map did not deliberate discriminate against minority poplations.

Reporting from Conservative Brief:

“Petitioners’ argument is premised on the theory that this case involves intentional minority vote dilution,” the state wrote. “But it is not plausible that the Kansas Legislature enacted SB 355 with a racially discriminatory purpose. Petitioners’ claims would therefore fail regardless of the answer to the question presented.”
