Supervisors in Los Angeles County Vote to Fire 4,000 Unvaxxed LAPD Officers

Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors decided in a 4-0 vote to allow administrators to fire as many as 4,000 unvaccinated Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) members.

QUICK FACTS:
  • As many as 4,000 Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) members could be looking for work after the County Board of Supervisors voted to allow their termination.
  • The board voted 4-0 Tuesday to allow civilian administrators to fire LASD members who declined to receive the COVID-19 vaccination, according to Breitbart News.
  • L.A. County Sheriff Alex Villanueva strongly objected to the measure, which came after he declined to enforce the vaccine mandate amongst his officers, according to KABC-7.
  • Los Angeles mayoral frontrunner Rep. Karen Bass (D-CA) has proposed hiring more personnel to the Los Angeles Police Department to cope with the ongoing crime wave through the city.
  • It’s estimated that less than 60% of the LASD are in compliance with vaccine mandates.
THE SHERIFF’S RESPONSE:
  • “…the Board hid behind an alleged threat to public safety they couldn’t back up with data. Tellingly, the Board’s own County Counsel (Rodrigo Castro-Silva) couldn’t offer even a basic legal opinion on the legality of the Board’s motion, or the obvious legal challenges they will face,” Sheriff Alex Villanueva said in a statement that protested the board’s decision.
  • “The Board, who ignored the comments made by thousands of their constituents today during their meeting, is now seeking to fire the very same personnel who were forced to work in person, exposing themselves to the COVID-19 virus when there was no vaccine, while the Supervisors and most of the workforce were telecommuting from the comfort and safety of their own homes.
  • “This is nothing more than another politically motivated stunt by the Board, which has no bearing on public health, but will definitely harm public safety.”
BACKGROUND:
  • Villanueva also declined to enforce the coronavirus mandates on local businesses in his country throughout the pandemic, according to Breitbart News.
  • The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) has stated their support for the LASD, issuing a statement in response to the citing the almost 100% increase in homicides in LA County in the last two years.
