Subpoenas Issued for Hunter and James Biden’s Banking Records Amid Impeachment Inquiry

House Oversight Committee Chairman, James Comer (R-KY), intensified the ongoing House impeachment inquiry against President Biden by issuing three subpoenas late Thursday, targeting the banking records of Biden’s son, Hunter, and brother, James.

This move comes just hours after the commencement of the first hearing related to the impeachment inquiry.

Previously indicating his intent to probe into the financial dealings of the Bidens, Comer, a Republican from Kentucky, substantiated his claims by stating, “From day one of our investigation of Joe Biden’s abuse of public office, we’ve followed the money and that continues with today’s subpoenas for Hunter and James Biden’s bank records.”

He further added, “Bank records don’t lie, and coupled with witness testimony, they reveal that Joe Biden abused his public office for his family’s financial gain.”

The subpoenas, bearing redactions over the bank names, mandate the disclosure of various financial documents including account statements, deposits, and wire transfers among others, related to Hunter Biden, James Biden, and their associated entities like Owasco, P.C., Owasco, LLC, Skaneateles, Lion Hall Group, LLC, and JBBSR, Inc.

Comer emphasized that the preliminary financial records his committee has garnered depict a narrative where the Bidens “sold access to Joe Biden around the world to enrich the Biden family.”

He expressed stern concerns over a potential “culture of corruption” that necessitates deeper investigation.

Earlier Thursday, the Oversight Committee held its first Biden impeachment hearing.

Comer detailed evidence showing President Biden “lied to the American people about his knowledge of and participation in his family’s corrupt international and domestic business schemes,” according to a press release.

“The American people demand accountability for this culture of corruption,” Comer said in an opening statement. “They demand to know how these schemes have compromised President Biden and threaten our national security. They demand safeguards to be put in place to prevent public officials from selling access to their public office for private gain.”

He gave a nod to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) for allowing the impeachment inquiry, explaining the goal of the process.

“Under the leadership of Speaker Kevin McCarthy, House Republicans have now opened an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden,” he said. “By opening an impeachment inquiry, our investigation is now focused on whether President Biden engaged in impeachable offenses under the U.S. Constitution.”

“It empowers Congress, elected by The People, to continue providing the answers, transparency, and accountability that the American people demand and deserve,” Comer added.
