Stacey Abrams Gets Cameo as Fictional President in ‘Star Trek: Discovery’

Georgia Gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams appeared as President of Earth in a cameo role for Paramount’s Star Trek: Discovery. Abrams appeared as the ruler of the entire planet in the show’s season four finale. “United Earth is ready right now to rejoin the Federation, and nothing could make me happier than to say those words,” Abrams’ character said in a climactic scene, according to a report from Breitbart. “There’s a lot of work to do, are you ready for that?”

The former Georgia gubernatorial candidate never actually conceded her 2020 election. At times, Abrams has even stated that she won the race. According to Abrams, “voter suppression” is the only reason she isn’t sitting in the governor’s mansion and has described Republican-sponsored election integrity efforts “voter suppression bills.”

Abrams has a much different take on pushback against the 2020 election. “What is so notable about this moment, and so disconcerting, is that they are not hiding. There is no attempt to pretend that the intention is not to restrict votes,” Abrams told The Guardian last year. “Their new term of art is election integrity. But it is a laughable word or phrase to use. It is designed based on anything but a question of integrity. The truth of the matter is there is no voter fraud. The truth of the matter is we had the most secure election that we’ve had.”

Stacey Abrams has also said that she wants to run for president eventually. “Do I hold it as an ambition? Absolutely,” she told CBS’ Sunday Morning last year, when asked about a potential White House run.

Star Trek showrunner Michelle Paradise told Indiewire that Stacey Abrams was the perfect actress for the role of fictional president. “We got on Zoom with her, and we pitched her where we were for the season and who this character was and what this character would represent,” Paradise said. “And asked if she would be a part of this with us. Honestly, I can’t think of anyone better to represent the president of Earth in all of that.”
