Spain To Adopt Most Extreme Transgender Law: Minors To Change Gender Without Parental Consent

Spain is set to adopt the world’s most radical transgender law, allowing minors to change their gender without the consent of a parent.

QUICK FACTS:
  • Earlier this month, Spain’s main mental health specialist organization announced the Spanish Parliament was about to pass one of the most radical transgender laws in the world.
  • The new “Trans Law” would allow anyone over the age of 16 to change their “gender” and to be treated as the opposite sex, including accessing bathrooms and competing in sports of their desired gender.
  • Children between 12 and 14 years of age will no longer need parental consent to alter their gender, but will only need a judge’s approval.
  • Health specialists are concerned that once passed, the law would prohibit professionals from intervening in the process. The law “jeopardizes the comprehensive medical care to which all children are entitled” and ignores the fact that “in all judicial decisions relevant to the life of the minor, the best interests of the minor must prevail,” said Luisa Lázaro, the president of the Spanish Association of Adolescent and Child Psychiatry (AEPNyA).
VICE-CHAIR OF THE COLLEGE OF PHYSICIANS OF MADRID LUISA GONZALEZ OVER THE NEW TRANSGENDER LAW:

“There is no science to justify legislating in this way,” González said. It “prevents professionals from working, violates the human rights of minors by preventing their care, and even usurps the parental authority of parents.”

BACKGROUND:
  • Last week, a middle schooler in Vermont was suspended for “misgendering” another student after raising concern over a biological male in the female locker room, American Faith reported.
  • The student’s father and soccer coach Travis Allen was also suspended from his job at the school for expressing his concern over the 14-year-old transgender female sharing the same locker room with his daughter and other female students.
  • “I made a social media post and referred to the male student as a male, and I was punished because I misgendered him,” Allen told TV host Tucker Carlson.
