Socialists Push Plan to Abolish U.S. Senate

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) plans to launch a platform that includes eliminating the U.S. Senate.

A source familiar with the plan believes the updated platform is expected to roll out next week, Fox News reports. The platform is believed to include removing the U.S. Senate and replacing the president and Supreme Court with an executive branch and judiciary chosen by Congress. It further includes amnesty for all immigrants and defunding the Department of War.

According to the DSA’s 2025-2026 program, socialists aim to obtain Medicare for all, provide free college, provide universal housing, create a 32-hour work week, tax the rich vote for president through a popular vote, and reduce the authority of the Supreme Court, among other efforts.

The update to the platform comes as the nation has faced several socialist victories. Melat Kiros, a 29-year-old Democratic Socialist, beat longtime Democratic Rep. Diana DeGette for Colorado’s 1st District.

Kiros has stated that the United States “already” has socialism. We have socialism already. It’s in the roads we drive on, the schools we send our kids to, the fire stations we call upon,” she said. “I’m just asking that we extend that security to our healthcare, to our housing, to our nutritional food, to our higher education so that we’re actually meeting the basic needs of everyday working families in this country.”

Another individual backed by the DSA, lawmaker Francesca Hong of Wisconsin, is running for governor in a wide-open race to succeed retiring Gov. Tony Evers. In Michigan, DSA-backed state lawmaker Donavan McKinney is challenging Rep. Shri Thanedar in the 13th Congressional District ahead of an August primary.
