Wild video from Spain shows a chaotic scene as beachgoers joined police in stopping around a dozen migrant landings on a crowded shoreline. The incident unfolded Sunday afternoon at Sotillo Beach in Castell de Ferro, Granada, when a black motorboat pulled into the shallows and migrants—believed to be from North Africa—jumped into the sea fully clothed, according to El Mundo.
Witnesses say the brazen drop-off occurred just feet from unsuspecting sunbathers. “We all stood there staring, not quite knowing what was happening. We thought it was a recreational boat, but when we saw people starting to throw objects into the water and getting out, we realized it wasn’t normal,” local restaurant owner Alberto Garcia told Ideal.
In the footage, one man in swim trunks can be seen wrestling a migrant to the ground, pinning him with a knee until Spain’s Civil Guard takes over. Other migrants fled up the beach as local police and bystanders joined the chase. Garcia noted the smugglers showed no fear, saying, “They went in where there were more people, as if nothing had happened, and stopped five meters from the shore.”
After unloading their human cargo, the boat—still carrying four people—calmly turned and sped away. The brazenness of the incident has renewed calls in Spain for stronger coastal patrols and tougher border enforcement.
