Russia Accuses U.S. of Orchestrating Drone Attack on Kremlin

The Russian government on Thursday accused the United States of being the “mastermind” behind the recent drone attack on the Kremlin, the residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov claimed that the orders for the attack did not come from Kyiv, but rather Washington.

“Decisions on such attacks are not made in Kyiv, but in Washington,” Peskov stated. “Kyiv only does what it is told to do.”

“Attempts to disown this (attack on the Kremlin), both in Kyiv and in Washington, are, of course, absolutely ridiculous. We know very well that decisions about such actions, about such terrorist attacks, are made not in Kyiv but in Washington,” Peskov added.

Russia’s foreign ministry said the alleged drone attack “must not go unanswered,” according to Reuters.

The White House has denied these allegations, with National Security spokesman John Kirby asserting that the United States had no involvement in the drone attack.

“I can assure you that there was no involvement by the United States in this. Whatever it was did not involve us,” Kirby said during an MSNBC interview.

He emphasized that the United States does not enable or encourage Ukraine to carry out attacks beyond its borders.

According to Kirby, the situation is still being assessed, and the details of the attack remain unclear.

“We still don’t really know what happened,” he admitted.

In response to the attempted drone attack, which the Kremlin described as a pre-planned act of terrorism and an attempt on Putin’s life, Russia is considering various options.

Peskov told reporters that a “wide variety” of response options are being considered, though he refused to provide specific details.

“Naturally, I cannot provide you any details here. In any case, the issue may only be about well-thought-out steps that meet the interests of our country,” he said.

The drone attack, which took place on May 3, involved two drones attempting a night-time strike on Putin’s Kremlin residence.

Russian military and special services were able to disable the enemy vehicles promptly, and the Russian president was not harmed.

The Kremlin has declared that it reserves the right to retaliate in a suitable way and when it deems appropriate, further escalating tensions between Russia and Ukraine.
