Robert Hur Testifies as Private Citizen

Special Counsel Robert Hur resigned last week following the investigation into Joe Biden’s mishandling of classified documents.

Hur must still comply with the policies given to Department of Justice (DOJ) employees.

During his testimony, Hur said, “We identified evidence that the President [Biden] willfully retained classified materials after the end of his vice presidency, when he was a private citizen.”

“This evidence included an audio recorded conversation, during which Mr. Biden told his ghostwriter that he had just found all the classified stuff downstairs,” he explained. “When Mr. Biden said this, he was a private citizen speaking to his ghostwriter in his private rental home in Virginia.”

He asserted that he “did not” exonerate Biden.

In an almost 400-page document, the Special Counsel’s Office wrote, “Our investigation uncovered evidence that President Biden willfully retained and disclosed classified materials after his vice presidency when he was a private citizen.”

“Mr. Biden’s memory was significantly limited, both during his recorded interviews with the ghostwriter in 2017, and in his interview with our office in 2023,” the report added. “And his cooperation with our investigation, including by reporting to the government that the Afghanistan documents were in his Delaware garage, will likely convince some jurors that he made an innocent mistake, rather than acting willfully – that is, with intent to break the law – as the statute requires.”

Update at 4:14 p.m. PT:

Speaking to Representative Jim Jordan (R-OH) Hur said Biden’s ghostwriter “slid those files into his recycle bin,” referring to audio recordings.

“Tried to destroy the evidence didn’t he?” Jordan asked, to which Hur said, “Correct.”
