RFK Jr. Says He Would Sign ‘Assault Weapons’ Ban If Elected

During a town hall meeting aired on NewsNation on Wednesday evening, Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (RFK Jr.) expressed willingness to approve a ban on “assault weapons” if such a measure were to come before him.

This declaration comes in the wake of growing Democrat advocacy for such legislation.

“If we can get a consensus on it, if Republicans and Democrats agreed and it passed Congress, I would sign it,” stated RFK Jr. when probed about his stance on an “assault weapons” ban.

He offered this response shortly after alluding to the fact that guns, in his view, are not the issue.

He pointed out that firearms have been a part of American life for ages, even noting a time when school-organized “gun clubs” were commonplace and the notion of using these weapons against children was unthinkable.

The presidential hopeful’s readiness to enforce an “assault weapons” ban is a noticeable shift from his stance expressed just over a week prior at a New Hampshire town hall, Breitbart points out.

During that event, he staunchly defended citizens’ gun rights, arguing against the notion that confiscating firearms could significantly reduce violence against children.

“Anyone who tells you that we can end the violence to our children that’s going on now by removing people’s guns, in the margin that has been left to us by this very expansive Supreme Court decision [Bruen] is not being truthful with you,” RFK Jr. had affirmed.

Further supporting this stance, in an earlier conversation with Elon Musk reported by Breitbart News on June 5, 2023, RFK Jr. said, “My position on gun control is that I’m not going to take away anybody’s guns. I’m a constitutional maximalist and the issue has been settled by the Supreme Court.”

Kennedy’s apparent change in stance came to light during the NewsNation town hall.
