Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) has stirred controversy after posting a speculative social media comment about President Donald Trump’s working relationship with Elon Musk and Vice President J.D. Vance. The remark, made late Tuesday night, quickly drew scrutiny as critics accused Crockett of engaging in baseless conjecture instead of focusing on substantive policy issues.
Crockett took to X (formerly Twitter) to comment on footage of Trump and Musk in the Oval Office, appearing to suggest that Vice President J.D. Vance had been sidelined in the administration’s major initiatives.
“So name one thing y’all have seen about JD Vance & what he is up to. I was watching clips of Trump & Elon in the Oval Office and thought this is weird, but uhhh even more odd is that he clearly has a partner in crime… it just doesn’t seem to be the flunky he ran with,” Crockett posted.
Unbeknownst to Crockett, Vice President Vance was actively engaged in international diplomacy at the time of her post. On Tuesday, he delivered his first major international speech at the AI Action Summit in Paris, an event attended by world leaders including French President Emmanuel Macron, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. Vance’s address focused on global artificial intelligence policy and economic innovation.
Crockett’s post was widely criticized for its speculative nature, with many pointing out that the vice president’s activities are well-documented. Some saw her remarks as an attempt to generate controversy rather than engage in meaningful political discourse.
Observers noted that this is not the first time Crockett has made public statements that have drawn widespread criticism. As scrutiny over her latest remarks grows, political analysts suggest that such comments do little to contribute to serious policy discussions.
