Representative Jamie Raskin (D-MD) of the House Oversight Committee has been informally meeting with Republicans in an effort to put a stop to the Biden impeachment inquiry.
Sources told Fox News that Rasking has met with “right-wing to more moderate members” to persuade them to abandon the inquiry.
Some of the Republicans, according to the sources, have been “especially receptive to seeing the Administration’s record of cooperation with investigators.”
House Oversight Democrats also have “fact sheets” as a move to counter House Republicans.
“Republicans may not be getting all of the facts from Mr. Comer, so we are making sure that they have the full picture as they decide whether to endorse this impeachment effort,” a House Democratic aide said.
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) told the outlet, “Despite Democrats’ best efforts, the House Oversight Committee has produced evidence revealing Joe Biden knew about, participated in, and benefited from his family cashing in on the Biden last name. We will continue to follow the facts and hold this president accountable for his corruption.”
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said during a Fox News interview that an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden is a “necessary step.”
“It’s become a necessary step. Elise [Stefanik] and I both served on the impeachment defense team of Donald Trump twice, when the Democrats used it for brazen partisan political purposes. We decried that use of it. This is very different,” he added.
“Our three committees of jurisdiction — judiciary, oversight, ways and means — have been doing an extraordinary job following the evidence where it leads,” Johnson continued. “But now we’re being stonewalled by the White House, because they’re preventing at least two to three DOJ witnesses from coming forward, a former White House counsel, the national archives . . . the White House has withheld thousands of pages of evidence.”
Describing the reasons for moving forward in the inquiry, Johnson stated, “We know that the Biden family received at least $15 million dollars from foreign nationals and foreign companies … sixteen times, at least on the record, Joe Biden has lied about his involvement in the family’s business dealings, Hunter Biden’s business dealings…”
“At least 22 times the president met with or talked with Hunter’s foreign business associates,” Johnson said.
