Record-Low Number of Americans Identify as Democrat

A new Gallup survey found that Americans are continuing to abandon the Democratic Party.

When asked, “Do you consider yourself a Republican or a Democrat,” 45% of respondents said they were Republican and 43% said they were Democrats.

The statistics are the greatest GOP levels since 1991.

Independents, however, make up the largest group.

According to the survey, those who have politically identified as Independent has been 40% or higher since 2011.

When asked what their political views were on a spectrum, 36% of respondents described themselves as holding conservative views.

Another 36% of respondents said they held moderate views, while 25% of respondents said they were liberal.
